Innovation in Business Practice

The course's primary focus is on the management of innovation processes within a corporate environment. It synthesises theoretical fundamentals with practical approaches, thereby developing the knowledge and skills required for effective planning, implementation and evaluation of innovation projects. Students will acquire an understanding of the fundamental principles of innovation, the potential avenues for its financial support, and gain a comprehensive overview of contemporary trends in innovation management. The programme places particular emphasis on cultivating competencies in the management of innovation teams, the assessment of risk, and the evaluation of the success of innovation initiatives.

1. Introduction to innovation in business practice (definition and history of innovation and innovation management).
2. Support for innovation in the EU and the Czech Republic: documents, institutions and information systems.
3. Identification of innovation opportunities and techniques for generating innovative ideas.
4. Strategic decision-making in relation to innovation (innovation strategies and objectives, evaluation and selection of innovation projects).
5. Innovation processes and management of innovation projects (innovation process phases).
6. Resources of the innovation process (human resources, protection of intellectual property assets).
7. Economic aspects related to innovation (financing of the innovation process).
8. Creative and innovative culture in the organisation.
9. Value management in the context of innovation management: methodological approaches and tools.
10. Measuring and evaluating the success of innovation initiatives (Key Performance Indicators for Innovation - KPIs).
11. Risk management in innovation.
12. Innovation trends and new technologies (new technologies and their impact on innovation, trends in innovation management, digitisation and automation of the innovation process).
13. Examples of innovation in corporate practice and case studies (analysis of specific innovation strategies and projects).
