Professional English 2

The course focuses on characteristic features of business professional communication. It provides students with relevant specialist language and professional communication skills they will need in the workplace. 

The course is intended for students of master’s degree programs in the first year of study, in the second semester. Language of instruction: English.

Zakončení na základě mezinárodního certifikátu:

-namísto absolvování předmětu Anglický jazyk B2 mohou studenti doložit jeden z následujících mezinárodně uznávaných certifikátů, složených v posledních pěti letech: CAE nebo CPE. Jiné certifikáty nejsou akceptovány.

Zakončení na základě zkoušky na zahraniční univerzitě:

-předmět absolvovaný v rámci programu Erasmus na zahraniční univerzitě, který svým obsahem a úrovní odpovídá předmětu Anglický jazyk B2 a zahrnuje závěrečnou zkoušku, může být uznán jako rovnocenný.

Entry knowledge

Professional English 2 is a follow-up to the course studied in the previous semester (Professional English 1) covering the first half of the course book (U1 - 6). Exam from course 1 is a necessary prerequisite to continue in the course 2.

Entry requirements: English language proficiency at B1+ (intermediate) level.

Re-enrolment in a course after successful completion is not allowed.

Rules for evaluation and completion of the course

Credit:
- 75% attendance and active participation at classes (10 pts)
- E-learning assignments (max. 10pts)
- Credit test (max. 30 pts, one attempt)
- Total min. 25 pts
Exam: Listening, Reading (max. 50 pts, min. 25pts).

The overall final grade is calculated from the total number of points awarded for the course credit and the exam according to the ECTS scale as follows: 100–90 (A), 89–80 (B), 79–70 (C), 69–60 (D), 59–50 (E), 49–0 (F).

Completion of the course for students with individual study plan

- E-learning assignments (max. 20pts)
- Credit test (max. 30 pts, one attempt)
- Total min. 25 pts
Exam: Listening, Reading (max. 50 pts, min. 25pts).

Students’ participation is compulsory and their work is systematically monitored. Regular attendance, active participation in lessons and completing of all assigned tasks are required. Absence may be compensated for by an agreement with the teacher.

Aims

The course has a practical approach and is intended for pre-service students preparing for work in a business environment.
The course at upper-intermediate level (B2 according to CEFR) is designed to prepare students for various economic professions. It will enrich their professional vocabulary and enable them to express themselves more authoritatively in professional contexts.
