English Language B2 - 2

The course focuses on the development of all language competencies at B2 SERR level. It is based on the materials and requirements of the international examination FCE (First Certificate in English). The subject is taught by means of practical language exercises with emphasis on practicing communication skills and developing knowledge of grammar and vocabulary.

Entry knowledge

Knowledge of English for General Purposes at level B2 CEFR is required. The student has successfully passed the course English language B2 - 1.

Rules for evaluation and completion of the course

Standard Course Completion

Assessment

To obtain credits and qualify for the final exam, students must meet the following conditions:

  1. Maintain a minimum 80% class attendance rate (students may skip no more than two lectures).
  2. Complete all required homework assignments.
  3. During Week 13, students prepare a 3–5 minute presentation on any topic covered during the course. The presentation should be consistent and coherent, and it must demonstrate the range of vocabulary acquired throughout the course. Students are also expected to create a PowerPoint presentation and are not permitted to read from their notes while delivering it.

To qualify for the final grade, students must pass the course final exam. The final exam grade is the overall course grade.

Grading System:

  • A: 90–100%
  • B: 80–89%
  • C: 70–79%
  • D: 60–69%
  • F: below 60% (failing grade)

The final exam assesses four core skills: Listening (25 points), Vocabulary (25 points), Grammar (30 points), and Writing (20 points).

Note on Plagiarism: All submitted work must be the result of the student’s own independent effort. AI-generated texts (e.g., produced by tools such as ChatGPT or similar systems) are not considered original student work and will not be accepted.

Completion for Students with Individual Study Plans*

  • Same requirements as above.
  • If personal attendance is not possible, an alternative assignment may be arranged with the instructor.

*An Individual Study Plan is subject to agreement between the student and the head of department and requires exceptional circumstances.

Completion Based on International Certificate

Instead of taking English Language B2, students may present one of the following internationally recognised certificates, completed within the last five years: CAE or CPE. Other certificates are not accepted.

Completion Based on an Exam at a Foreign University

A course completed within the Erasmus programme at a foreign university that corresponds in content and level to English Language B2 and includes a final exam may be recognised as equivalent.

Aims

The course is focused on the development of all language competencies needed for fluent and independent use of English for General Purposes at B2 SERR level.
The student uses English language as an independent user at B2 CEFR level.
He/she lists and describes a number of free time activities.
He/she expresses his/her opinions on the media and their roles in the society.
He/she specifies various environmental problems and explains them in different contexts.
He/she is able to discuss different methods and means of interpersonal communication.
He/she uses grammatical structures according to the requirements of the given level and course syllabus.

Syllabus
