The course introduces students to the fundamentals of geology relevant to construction practice. It focuses on the formation, properties and identification of minerals and the main types of rocks, their use in construction, the use of geological maps, and the fundamentals of the regional geology of the Czech Republic, hydrogeology and foundation soil. The course includes practical identification of rocks and preparation of a semester project.

Rules for evaluation and completion of the course
The course assessment is based on students’ ongoing work and their mastery of the course content throughout the semester. The course is completed by awarding credit based on the submission and completion of the semester project and the student’s ability to independently describe rock material.
