Special Methodology of Forensic Engineering - Traffic Accidents Analysis

The course focuses on the basic disciplines that are used in the analysis of road accidents. Furthermore, the subject deals with the application of special disciplines, i.e. dynamics of collision phenomena, visual perception of the driver, forensic medicine, biomechanics and criminalistics.

Written exam, preceded by processing of individual work and oral expert discussion.

Aims

The aim of the course is to familiarize students with selected topics in mathematics and physics, forensic medicine, biomechanics and forensic science. The aim is also to gain experience with the application of physical laws to specific solved partial tasks and then their use in a comprehensive analysis of accident events.

The ability of basic orientation in the fields and their interconnection, which are used in a multidisciplinary field such as road accident analysis and the ability to analyze a simple accident event.

Syllabus

1. Basics of mechanics in the accident analysis.
2. Expert experiment or investigative attempt to provide the basis for the analysis of the traffic accident.
3. Calculations in expert opinion, evaluation of measurement results, transmission of errors (range) of input values ​​in calculations; methods of forensic expert analysis (method of unwinding of the action, method of narrowing of boundaries, analysis of processes in time and space, forensic engineering comparison, analysis of accidents).
4. Partial procedures and methods of the analysis (transverse displacement of the vehicle, determination of impact or equivalent energy velocity).
5. Numerical analysis of vehicle collisions.
6. Graphical analysis of collision (diagram of momentum and impulse equilibrium, modified diagram of momentum and impulse equilibrium, rotation control, rhomboid section and energy ring method).
7. The analysis of typical accidents (pedestrian accidents, collisions of vehicles, combinations of vehicles, including the analysis of the possibility of passing oncoming vehicles between the towing vehicle and trailer or between axles.
8. Nomenclature and analysis of bicycle and motorcycle accidents.
9. Curving, aquaplaning, analysis of the position of the crew in the vehicle, priority in driving, reduced ability to drive, accidents in traffic lights, technical defect as the cause or effect of the accident (by individual vehicle groups).
10. System analysis of a road accident (a road accident system, its elements or subsystems, nomenclature and quantities used in the accident analysis, their units, ways of determining values).
11. Selected characteristics of individual elements of the accident system, important for the accident analysis.
12. Calculation programs for road accident analysis.
13. Expert opinion on causes and course of road accident.
