Monument Restoration
FAST-BGA017Acad. year: 2025/2026
The course acquaints with the basic issues of monument care, protection and restoration of monuments, historical ensembles, folk architecture, settlements and landscape. It describes changes of urban structures and species composition in historical time periods, used historical constructions, materials, colors and technologies. It explains the problems of the most common construction failures, necessary surveys and planning documentation. It acquaints with the development of monument care including methods used, legislation and international documents.

Entry knowledge
Basic knowledge of the history of art and architecture, knowledge of the principles of basic tectonic systems, building materials of traditional architecture and basic structures of building construction.
Rules for evaluation and completion of the course
The final exam takes the form of a written test. The seminar evaluation (max. 30 points) will be included in the total score (max. 100 points).

Aims
The aim of the course is to acquire knowledge for architectural design in historically valuable environments in accordance with heritage conservation, including an awareness of methods of restoration, conservation and use of historic structures.
Overview of cultural values and methods of restoration of monuments and practical experience with documentation and surveys of historic buildings.
