Course detail
FA-VK2-NAcad. year: 2025/2026
The course builds on instruction from the first year and focuses primarily on understanding drawing as a tool of communication.Teaching is divided into three blocks: mastering more advanced drawing exercises such as modeling space with light and shadow, studying an architectural or artistic element, or designing one’s own spatial composition; further drawing assignments carried out en plein air, with an emphasis on capturing spatial relationships, cultivating drawing expression, and understanding drawing as an analytical tool for grasping reality. The course also includes a final project in the form of a take-home assignment, which will be specified at the beginning of the semester and consulted on an ongoing basis.
The instruction combines traditional methods of academic drawing with contemporary approaches such as urban sketching and the narrative potential of drawing, and is primarily aimed at developing the ability to communicate student’s ideas convincingly through drawing.

Rules for evaluation and completion of the course
To be awarded course credit, students must submit a collection of drawings from in-class exercises and homework assignments representing all thematic blocks, including the final project. The grading includes both the quality of the submitted drawings and the student’s progress over the course of the semester, taking into account engagement, effort, and originality.
Students are required to attend the introductory lecture and to participate in the practical classes. Three absences per semester are tolerated. Excused absences and arrangements for more frequent absences due to serious reasons are possible by agreement with the instructor; alternatively, an absence may be compensated by completing the exercise as a take-home assignment. A higher number of absences may affect the final evaluation.
Aims
Students will acquire more advanced drawing skills leading toward independent and free representation of more complex spatial situations as well as their own ideas. The aim of the course is to learn to understand drawing as an integral part of the architect’s creative process, and as a tool for analysis and communication.
