The course aims to introduce the methods of conservation and care for architectural heritage and urban complexes, and to present the competences for architectural work in the environment with conserved valuable architectural building stock. Students will learn the methods of renovation and variants of conservation and new use of cultural heritage. Students will get the knowledge and skills essential for architects as high percentage of construction development is an intervention into the existing structures; and to formulate ecological, economical, ethical and aesthetic arguments to conserve their values.
Successful completion of the course will enable the students to:

• have general overview of architectural heritage care;
• identify heritage and other values of the inherited stock of buildings and to give arguments why they should be conserved;
• interconnect the knowledge from the history of architecture and construction technology with practical questions of maintenance and renovation of monuments;
• design professional concept of intervention into a historic development after some time of practice;
• develop an adequate working documentation for a renovation project and to supervise its completion.

Written examination will be taken in person during the exam period.
Compulsory participation at the seminars and submission of seminar work.
