Course detail

Satellite Control and Management

FEKT-MPA-SCMAcad. year: 2023/2024

The course is focused on understanding the satellite communication in comparison with terrestrial radio systems. Within the course, key aspects of signal transmission by both types of systems are presented, their different properties and requirements are pointed out. For satellite links, satellite orbits, their properties, and the method of calculating the position prediction are also discussed. The basic components and structure of a communication satellite are briefly described. Examples of both terrestrial links and examples of various fixed and mobile service satellite communication systems, including satellite navigation systems, are given. Attention is also focused on the evaluation of the energy balance of the satellite link.

Rules for evaluation and completion of the course

Students can obtain 35 points during the semester, of which 20 points is for laboratory exercises and 15 points is for computer exercises. The final exam is evaluated by 65 points.

Aims

The aim of the course is to explain the specifics of radio communication in terrestrial directional and satellite communications, to acquaint the students with the problems of motion and satellite construction, to teach them to evaluate the energy balance of the connection and describe the basic features of important communication systems in this area.
The graduate of the course is able to describe basic satellite components, describe and explain differences in radio communication in terrestrial directional and satellite links, describe disturbing effects affecting the propagation of radio waves in terrestrial directional and satellite links, explain the principles of satellite navigation, basic components of the satellite body.
