Course detail

Design of Audio Electronic Devices

FEKT-BPC-NKZTAcad. year: 2023/2024

The basic principles of design and construction of low-frequency equipment are explained in a broader context. The course covers circuit principles, design methods, computer modeling, and practical design principles of various audio equipment such as mixers, sound effects, dynamic processors, amplifiers, etc.

Language of instruction

Czech

Number of ECTS credits

Mode of study

Not applicable.

Entry knowledge

Students should have basic knowledge of mathematics and electrical engineering, which gets in the mandatory subjects in the previous study. Their graduating is not a prerequisite for registration of this subject.

Rules for evaluation and completion of the course

0-30 points - laboratories
0-70 points – written exam, compulsory part of the completion of the course
Exam is focused to verify the orientation of the basic problems facing the design and construction of audio technology, the characterization of systems analysis and synthesis of simple audio systems.
The content and forms of instruction in the evaluated course are specified by a regulation issued by the lecturer responsible for the course and updated for every academic year.

Aims

The aim of the course is to deepen the existing and to acquire the new theoretical and practical knowledge in the field of the design and construction of low-frequency devices. Students will get acquainted with circuit principles and design solutions of sound and music electronics, will try their computer simulation, practical design, and measurement. The knowledge gained in courses focusing on general electronic circuits and on musical and acoustic technology is connected.
The student of the course Design and construction of audio technology will understand the broader issue of external design and construction of equipment for audio equipment. Active knowledge of the design and construction of audio technology is a prerequisite for the effective use and real possibilities of these devices. Student will be able to understand the essential parts of the device, its design and diagnosis. Students gain a wider context, especially in the following areas:
- Basic principles of low-frequency devices and electronic circuits, electronic components for the implementation of audio circuits.
- Mixers, analysis of individual parts, tube amplifiers, echo, effect amplifiers, line amplifiers, pre-amplifiers, their practically verified topologies.
- Noise cancellers, Dolby systems, circuits for adjusting the dynamics of audio signals.
- Active and passive frequency crossovers.
- Pickups for musical instruments, instrument amplifiers, loudspeakers
