Course detail

Advanced Tribology

FSI-9EHDAcad. year: 2023/2024

The subject provides theoretical and practical knowledge regarding processes of friction, lubrication and wear which take place in machines with essential importance in its research, development and production. Attention is paid on student’s understanding of basic and advanced principles and its application to research and development of tribological systems. The subject follows up and complements content of subjects in the Master’s study in the fields of tribology, mechanics, mechanical engineering and material sciences.

Entry knowledge

General courses on mechanics, machine design, material sciences and hydromechanics.

Rules for evaluation and completion of the course

Conditions for gaining the exam:
- submission and defense of individual work on selected theme related to the field of contact problems, lubrication, friction or wear. The work includes theoretical description, calculations and analysis of own or published experimental results.

Absence from lessons may be compensated for according to instructions of the teacher.

Aims

Absolvents are able to analyse and solve advance problems of friction, lubrication and wear of contacts in machines. Focus is payed on improvement of abilities to understand, describe and interpret own observations of tribology experiments and simulations.

- Ability to solve problems of tribological contact.
- Ability to select, design and conduct appropriate tribological test.
- Ability to apply fundamental possibilities of theoretical calculations.
- Ability to compare results of experiments with theory, interpret results and make conclusions.
