Alternative glassmaking 2

The course is structured as a series of workshops with artists selected on the basis of their work with the medium of glass. The workshops will take place in the workshops of the selected artists, or in the glassworks in Karlov.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Completion of the course should provide students with intermediate knowledge of glass production and a technological and experiential base for their own experimentation in alternative glass production.

 

Prerequisites

Completion of Alternative Glassmaking 1 in the winter semester.

Workshops, consultations of author's work, facilitated discussions.

 

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Credit will be awarded for participation in workshops and submission of a design or finished glass artifact using one of the techniques presented in the semester.

Jakub Petr (graduate of the studio of Prof. Vladimír Kopecký and Rony Plesl at the UMPRUM in Prague; artist and teacher whose work involves the popularization of science and new media, often incorporating glass) 

Miroslava Ptáčková (PhD graduate at UTB in Zlín in Glass Design; artist dealing with glass in her own work as well as in curatorial and publishing work)

Irena Czepcová (artist, designer and lecturer at UTB Zlín, in the Glass Design studio; co-founder of the "penocze" studio)

Dagmar Petrovická (artist, designer and producer; graduate of the glass studio of doc. ac. mal. Ilija Bílek at the Jagiellonian University of Fine Arts; co-founder of "penozce" studio)

Petr Stanický (glass artist and teacher at UTB in Zlín, distinctive glass work with many experiences)

Johan Petrla and Tomáš Kučera (Johan Petrla is a graduate of the Czech Technical University of Technology, now runs his own glassworks with Tomáš Kučera in Světlá; both of these designers/glassmakers are currently students of the glass studio at the UMPRUM in Prague).

Aims

The aim of the course is to broaden the learners' experience base with alternative methods of glass production / handling.

 

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

Teaching will take the form of trips to the glassworks/studio of the artists included in the programme. Participation in at least five workshops is required for awarding credit.
