Theoretical principles and rules of planning cities and regions. Planning cities and regions, basic theoretical training.
In the study programmes “Architecture and Urban Design” the course is part of the theoretical courses.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Teaching methods depend on teachers requests. The teaching process consists of students seminary work focused on contemporary city (city district)development problem.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Final exam is related with practical work topic.

Course curriculum

Semester block schedule:
  1. Urbanism and urban planning, terms and relations.
  2. Urban planning instruments in Czech republic.
  3. Contemporary city, its functional, transport and space organisation.
  4. Actual problems and phenomenons (brownfields, suburbanisation, urban sprawl, shrinking cities)
  5. Urbanisation and its phases, principles and relations.
  6. Brownfields – features and examples
  7. Sustainable cities development.
  8. Brno – development.

Aims

The aim of the subject's study is to gain the theoretical and methodical knowledge needed for urban development planning.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

Continuously consultated seminary work focused on regulation plan of the area according the students choice.
