Specialized Professional Internship 1

The professional internship is an integral component of the professional-oriented Master's degree programme “Architecture and Urban Design”.
Under the supervision of a certified architect (or equivalent person in another country), students will familiarize themselves with the operation of an architectural office and the aspects of industrial practice. On justified occasions students can do their internship in a state or research organization etc. The internship cannot be served with Brno University of Technology.
The interns are expected to be involved in the activities related with their future independent architectural practice (r.g. procurement services, acquiring expert's opinions, preparing planning approvals etc.).

Learning outcomes of the course unit

– Students will become familiar with the operation of an architectural office, or a state/ research organization.
– Students will be able to formulate specialist opinions.
– Students will be able to lead a professional team.
– Students will be able to communicate with the specialists from other fields (as an architect or a researcher).
– Students will be able to communicate with a client (as the author of the project documentation, or the reviewer).

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Students will do an internship under the supervision of an architect certified by the Czech Chamber of Architects or an equivalently qualified person from other country. In justified cases students may do the internship at a state or research organization etc. Students are not allowed to do their internship with BUT. The internship must be approved by the subject guarantor before its start.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

The internship must be approved by the subject guarantor before its start.
Students must submit a timesheet (signed by a certified architect or an equivalently qualified person from another country, or in case of the internship with a state or research organization, by their supervisor), work diary and anonymised samples of their work.

Aims

To gain specialized knowledge and skills necessary for the future independent practice in the field of architecture of urban design.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

The length of the Specialized Professional Internship 1 is set to 80 hours at minimum (which corresponds with 2 weeks when working 40 hours a week) in at least 2 working weeks.
The internship can be performed also outside the standard teaching and examination period allocated in the time plan of the academic year.
The total length of specialized internship is set to 240 hours at minimum in at least 6 working weeks.
