Basics of Study Drawing

FaVU-1ZSKAcad. year: 2022/2023

The course is designed as a cycle of consecutive practical drawing exercises. During the lessons, students will get acquainted in gradual steps with the method of displaying simple geometric objects, either arranged separately or later composed into still lifes. Students will be explained the distance from the object and the image area, perspective, methods of measuring objects, lighting principles and light interaction, composing into the image area, etc.
After mastering the drawing of simple square and cylindrical objects, the course will follow up with drawing according to plaster casts of heads and limbs. These more demanding exercises are a direct precursor to drawing according to living models.

Aims

The aim of the course is for students to learn the basics of study drawing. For students entering the 1st year, the level of knowledge in this area varies considerably. In some cases, they don’t have any, which makes it very difficult to master the demanding drawing disciplines that they encounter during their studies, such as figural drawing. The course will build and strengthen the ability to successfully master the study drawing as a method of researching reality and the subsequent transfer of information about the three-dimensional world to a two-dimensional image area. The aim of the course can also be characterized by the poetic words: "A steady eye, a firm hand".

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

Teaching takes place in the drawing room of the Cabinet of Traditional Media FaVU BUT in the hours determined by the schedule. The minimum participation is 80%. Replacement of missed classes takes place in agreement with the teacher in the form of alternative assignments.
