A course aimed at introducing important tendencies and personalities in the field of action art, which follows the thematically similar courses Media Action 1 and 2. The main overarching themes of this semester are COMMUNICATION AND CONTEXT (action art and the art/art world) and COMPLEX SYSTEMS (reflection on the relationship between action art and philosophy, spirituality; overlaps into lifestyle)

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Upon completion of the course, students will be able to: identify and summarize important features of individual works and collective action art movements; identify and describe current domestic and international artistic trends in action art; compare and highlight differences in the approaches of individual artists; apply basic terminology of the field to specific artworks; characterize current trends in action art; describe the means used to realize a specific action artwork.

Prerequisites

Basic orientation in art history. Sufficient linguistic competence to work with sources in English.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Lectures and seminars organized according to a given curriculum. The seminar part consists of student presentations followed by a guided discussion.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

In addition to attendance, a condition for the award of credit is the presentation of a paper (15-20 minutes) with visual documentation (projection) and the submission of a seminar paper in digital form.

Aims

The main objective of the course is to introduce key action artists and their significant works of art. The course content is organized as an exploration of the media of action art, structured under given thematic headings.
