Applied Ecology

The subject's aim is to offer fundamental knowledge of the natural environment and of the laws of its development. The fundamental terms of ecology are explained. Getting acquainted with the basic acts on the protection of nature, landscape and the environment. Distinguishing the most current woody species which the architect and urban planner encounters. Preparation for negotiation with specialists in the process of land use planning.
The subject does not cover ecological buildings, landscape development and garden architecture which are taught in other mostly optional subjects in later years of study.
The classes (tutorials) include ecological mapping in an area of 1 km2 , and half day scientific excursions in the environs of Brno dedicated to the discussion in a real landscape of the topics dealt with in the lectures.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes
is exclusively oral. The resulting classification depends on the result of examination (70 %), quality of submitted work (20%) and the student's activity at tutorials and study visit.
