Course curriculum

This course is fundamental overview of specific chemical transformations, good practical advice needed for requiring more detail on conjugated materials synthesis. The purpose of this course is to give students an introduction and general information for each important synthetic method category and a number of examples with practically important variations.
1+2. Synthetic methods for synthesis and transformation of basic functional groups
3+4. Effect of side chain substitution and its role like electron donors and acceptors
5. Synthesis of donors
6. Synthesis of acceptors
7. Thiophene chemistry
8-11. Synthesis of π-conjugated systems via cross-coupling reactions
12+13. Basic methods of polymerization reactions

Work placements

Not applicable.

The aim of the course is to deepen the knowledge of the synthesis of advanced materials for organic electronics and photonics. Above all, these are pi-conjugated molecules and polymers that can be easily modified to modify their final properties for individual applications, using organic synthesis.
