Weirs

FAST-0R7Acad. year: 2021/2022

Conceptual approach to design of a weir placement according to its function and purpose. Calculation and design of main dimensions of the weir (width, number of openings, piers) stilling basin design, lining of back of weir and downstream apron. Construction principles and design of single parts of weir – weir basement, weir training, sealing of underlay. Preliminary statical weir evaluation.Main types and structions of fixed weirs and weir gates. Gates manipulation principles. Flashboards and weir equipment. Intakes, headworks, drives, culverts, fish pass.Weir design and project documentation elaboration: Weir placement (river training documentation, purpose of weir). Selection and design of permanent-storage level (PSL), weir type and struction design. Calculation and design of main weir dimensions, determination of weir gate manipulation principles.Design of structure elements and weir foundation, auxiliaries, intakes, weir-channel connection. Prelimiary stability evaluation - loading, filtration influence, acting forces calculation, stability conditions, safety enhancing measures (measures against filtration, sealing, hooking). Weir incorporation into a trained river and environment – weir evaluation according to law 244/92
