Hardware and Microprocessor Technique

The course is focused on acquiring basic knowledge of computer hardware. Emphasis is placed on the principle of operation and implementation of computers and peripheral devices and methods of communication between them. Students will learn to solve basic tasks from uP technology (I/O control, servo motor control, reading data from sensors, etc.) on practical examples using development kits.

Ability to design and implement a suitable computer configuration and create the necessary software according to the requirements of the application.

Basic knowledge from mathematics and physics and C programming are required.

The course is taught through lectures explaining the basic principles and theory of the discipline. Exercises are focused on practical topics presented in lectures.

Aims

Gaining an overview of the hardware of computers and peripherals. Acquisition of practical knowledge and skills related to the choice of microcomputer, its configuration, selection of suitable peripheral devices and also microprocessor programming.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

Solving an extra assignment can compensate absence.

2. An introduction to computer architecture and assembler programming.
3.-4. Passive and active electronic components, analog and digital circuits.
5. Digital ICs technologies (TTL, CMOS), combinational logic circuits.
6. Sequential logic circuits, flip-flops.
7. Memories. Bus, interrupt system, DMA.
8. I/O circuits, parallel and serial input, UART.
9. Counters, timers. A/D and D/A converters.
10. Communication interface (V24, USB, CAN, I2C).
11. Peripheral devices - display units, printers, cameras, external memories.
12. Signal processors, programmable gate arrays.
13. Modern trends in hardware and microprocessor technology.

1. Explanation of work with computer technology, electronics and relevant laboratory background (multimeters, oscilloscopes, etc.). Description of PC and its peripherals. Description of Arduino and RaspebrryPi platforms.
2. ASM Programming Language (Assembler).
3. Programming language ANSI C and Python.
4. Interrupt system (external and internal interrupt, masked unmasked). Counters, RTC.
5. Communication RS232, 485, serial bus I2C.
6. Wireless communication.
7. A / D converters and data collection for IoT.
8. Display devices.
9. RealTime application with Matlab / Simulink.
10. Control of modeling servos. Pulse Width Modulation (PWM).
