Safety Engineering

Safety engineering” is focused on risk assessment in industry, agronomy, transport and pipelines, and near potential fire sources. The subject requires knowledge from the areas of technology, the environment and economics, and includes analysis and risk modelling. It also deals with buildings and their structural analysis, as well as safety at work, the prevention of accidents and the resistance of structures against selected types of emergency incidents.
The subject also covers related Czech and European Union legislation.

Course curriculum
2. Introduction to Czech and EU legislation, and that of other countries in the field of safety at work and risk.
3. Duties of employers and employees. Assessment of exposure to risk within a given work system.
4. Danger during selected working activities. Professional state oversight regarding safety at work.
5. Summary of methods concerning risk source identification and risk assessment.
6. Risk in chosen industrial and agricultural operations.
7. Risk in non-manufacturing operations, warehouses, transport and pipelines.
8. Risk at potential sources of fire and explosion hazards.
9. Methods of calculating shock waves and heat radiation.
10. Basics of buildings and structural analysis; the protection of structures, and the resistance of structures to specific emergency incidents.
11. Economic aspects of accidents, unwanted events involving technical equipment.
12. Handling of harmful substances.
13. Practical software usage.
