Course detail
Advanced Biometric Systems
FIT-PBDAcad. year: 2021/2022
Introduction to biometric systems, analysis of signal processing at a general level, specific algorithms for signal processing in the field of biometric systems, specialized procedures for processing selected biometric features (e.g. thermal face images, 3D geometry of face or hand, finger veins), error rates together with calculation and interpretation, security of biometric systems and biometric systems of the future.
Areas of questions to the Ph.D. state examination
- Definition of possible ways of processing biometric signals with a focus on specific filters for detection and extraction of biometric features.
- Definition of reliability evaluation of biometric systems, incl. concepts FAR/FRR, FMR/FNRM, ROC/DET and compilation of experimental scenarios.
- Description of recognition of thermal face images (method of scanning, (pre)processing of biometric characteristics, extraction of features and comparison).
- Description of 3D face recognition (method of scanning, (pre)processing of biometric characteristics, feature extraction and comparison).
- Description of finger/hand vein recognition (method of scanning, (pre)processing of biometric characteristics, feature extraction and comparison).
- Description of eye iris recognition (method of scanning, (pre)processing of biometric characteristics, feature extraction and comparison).
- Description of eye retina recognition (method of scanning, (pre)processing of biometric characteristics, feature extraction and comparison).
- Definition of the composition of the biometric system, description of critical points and the difference between unimodal and multimodal biometric system.
- Definition of the issue of biometric passports from a global perspective, focusing on the biometric part.
