Course detail

Industrial Design II

FSI-YA2Acad. year: 2020/2021

The course should develop the ability of students to work on a design activity. Students are given during the semester specific tasks to design products that have a practical background material (specific company) and consulting capabilities. Examples of the subjects addressed: portable compressor, instrumentation, industrial vacuums, hydraulic shears. The design project is documented by drawing sketches, drawings, perspective views, and a three-dimensional model of final solution. It is assumed that the processing of the project, students will use the experience gained with the program package Adobe and Rhinoceros 3D during the presentation of the project

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Students acquire experience in processing of design a single product, on the basis of the analysis and input data. Students will also learn to present the results of work through digital technology.

Prerequisites

Students are assumed to have mastered the fundamentals of drawing and moulding necessary for project presentation, understanding of the basic spatial creation, art composition and realisation of three-dimensional models. Mastering designer’s solution of simpler industrial products is also expected. Knowledge of program Rhinoceros 3D, Photoshop or CorelDraw is desirable.
Completion of the subject: Industrial Design I (YA1).

Co-requisites

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Creative work in ateliers.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Graded course-unit credit requirements: attendance at lessons, handing over assigned projects by the deadline in a sufficient quality. Presentation of an elaborated project. Design and the level of presentation of each project are evaluated separately.
Resulting evaluation consists of evaluations on projects and exclusive tasks. In total it will be possible to aquire 100 points. Resulting classification will be defined by the ECTS scale.
If some of the projects are awarded less than half of the maximum pts., final evaluation of the course is "failed".
According to the article No. 13 of Study and Examination Rules of Brno University of Technology ECTS evaluation degree scale is used. . If some of the projects are awarded less than 50 pts., final evaluation of the course is "failed". The course is evaluated with the following grades: ECTS EVALUATION DEGREES / PTS. RATING / NUMERIC RATING: A / 100 - 90 / 1 / Excellent; B /89 - 80 / 1,5 / Very good; C / 79 - 70 / 2 / Good; D / 69 - 60 / Satisfactory; E / 59 - 50 / Sufficient; F / 49 - 0 / 4 / Failed.

Aims

The aim of the subject is to develop the abilities of the students to design a product with a simple function, enlarge their knowledge of basic atributes of design of industrial products and support gaining the necessary habits, mind processes and development of basic abilities including working with digital technologies. The aim is to give and develop in the students the notion of respecting technical, operational and technological aspects of designing.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences
