Monument Restoration

Learning outcomes of the course unit The subject acquaints the basic issues of heritage care, protection and restoration of monuments, historical ensembles, folk architecture, settlements and landscape. It approaches the changes of urban structures and species composition in historical time phases, used historical constructions, materials, color and technology. It clarifies the issues of the most common structural failures, necessary surveys and planning documentation. It acquaints with the development of heritage care, including the methods used, legislation and international documents.

Student will manage the goal of the subject, i.e. knowledge of the monument restoration and renewal, architectonic heritage, development of the preservation of monuments, methods of the preservation of monuments, legislation of the protection of monuments, historical settlement protection.

Prerequisites

The subject presupposes and develops knowledge about the history of architecture, partly using the knowledge of engineering subjects. However, this is mainly a separate specific area with its own methodological basis and legislation.
