Research Methods in Management

Students will be introduced by lectures with research methodology. Students will select concrete reserach problem and in the practice students will provide primary investigation. After the processing of research results into the project, this project will be defended due the presentation.

Learning outcomes of the course unit
Upon successful completion of this course, students should be able to:
• Successfully conduct business research
• Contribute constructively to problem solving and decision making
• contribute to the development of a research report
• present before the auditorium.
To successfully complete this course, students must:
• actively work in practice
• collect relevant information for strategic analysis in the chosen area
• analyze the information gathered, critically evaluate it and develop a number of alternatives to the solution, present management alternatives or strategic case solutions.
Prerequisites
Knowledge: MS Office in Excell, Word and PoverPoint at least bachelor's degree.
Skills: Ability to communicate with respondents, collect and process data. Ability to defend the results of the research not only before the lecturer at the university, but also before the company management.
Competence: working in a particular company. Communicate with researchers about the research problem.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Lectures will be used in the classic presentation and so-called "participants centered learning" approach.
The seminars will use specific cases from research in business practice and case studies from recommended literature.
Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes
The final evaluation of the research project is based on the quality of the critical analysis of the literature search and the selection of the appropriate research strategy and methods. Furthermore, the analysis and processing of data, including conclusions drawn. The evaluation also includes the level and defense of the presentation itself and the answer to the questions. The total number of points a student can earn is 60 points, which is divided according to the qualitative evaluation criteria as follows:
• 40 points - literature research and setting of the research framework, formulation of the goal, selection of methodology, chosen strategy and techniques of data collection, data analysis and evaluation, formulation of conclusions, contribution to practice
• 15 points - presentation level
• 5 points - discussion and defense of research results.
The student must obtain at least 30 points from the research project and presentation.
The written test will be composed of 4 open questions, based on lectures for lectures for full-time study. Each question will be evaluated by a maximum of 10 points (for each), and selected from a range of topics with a 60-minute drafting time. The total number of points a student can score from the test is 40 points.
The student must obtain at least 50% points (ie 20 points) from the written test. If the student fails to earn at least 50% of the points in the first term, he / she can write a corrective written test. The written test is an obligatory part for awarding a classified credit.

1) Individual research project - 0-60 points.
2) Written test - 0-40 points (it is necessary to obtain at least 50%, ie at least 20 points).

A - 90-100 points
B - 80-89 points
C - 70-79 points
D - 60-69 points
E - 51-59 points
F - 50 points or less
Reasons for not awarding classified course unit credit !!!
• not submitting a research project in time
• more than one absence at seminars
• not presenting a research project
• Get 50 points or less.

4. Research methods and technics in management, their sorting. The study of documents as research methods. Quantitative and qualitative data analysis.
5. Method of observation in management. Sorts, characteristics and usage.
6. Method of questionnairing in management, their characteristics and usage.
7. Method of experimnting in management. Sorts of experiment, realization.
8. Methods os measuring (scaling, tests) in management.
9. Qualitative oriented research.
