Multimedia Data Processing

The course focuses in detail on the description of modern compression algorithms and methods used in image and video processing, description of security of multimedia content by means of watermarking techniques, description of principles of multimedia data transmission in IP networks, and description of the principles of indexing and retrieval in large multimedia databases.

- describe and explain the basic parameters of digital image and video,
- describe and explain the procedure for measuring the quality of digital image and video,
- explain the transformations used to image/video compression,
- explain the entropic coding used to image/video compression,
- explain the principles of motion estimation and compensation used in video compression standards,
- describe and implement individual parts of JPEG and MPEG compression,
- describe current compression formats, define their advantages and disadvantages,
- to orientate in the environment of the transmission of multimedia data over the Internet,
- Explain the principles of multimedial content security,
- describe the principles of multimedia databases.
