Learning outcomes of the course unit

Basic relations between structures and properties on atomic level, principles of bond formation in relation to stability, reaction rate, changes of energy during reaction, phase and chemical equilibria in relation to technological problems.

Prerequisites

Basic knowledge of chemisty, physics and mathematics at high-school level.

Co-requisites

Not applicable.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

The course uses teaching methods in form of Lecture - 2 teaching hours per week, Seminar - 1 teaching hour per week, seminars - 2 teaching hours per week. The e-learning system (LMS Moodle) is available to teachers and students.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Particular tests will be taken during the exercise and seminar enable if the results are 80,0% and higher from both parts qualify the student directly to the final exam.
The credit qualification test is necessery if the student has score below 80,0%. Preliminary exam test is qualified as passed if the student get more than 50,00% from the nomenclature of chemistry and simultaneously more than 50,00% from numerical calculations.
Final exam: 50 % point from examination written test is required and basic theoretical knowledge of general chemistry has to be proved by oral examination.

Aims

Introducing lectures of General chemistry are oriented to understanding of principles of formation of various types of bonds, energy of chemical processes, system of elements and structure of compounds in relation to their properties.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

Attendance of two written tests at lessons during whole semestr is compulsory with consequences stated in art.7 paragraph 5 of Faculty directive governing clauses of Study and examination rule of BUT.
Preliminary exam test (if the student did not reached over 80% from particular tests, nomenclature of chemistry and numerical calculation are validated separately). Preliminary exam test is qualified as passed if the student get more than 50,00% from the nomenclature of chemistry and simultaneously more than 50,00% from numerical calculations.
