Learning outcomes of the course unit

The aim of the lessons is provide students with the ability to evaluate the quality of executed construction work. Students will learn to carry out selected tests independently. They will understand measurement theory and the physical principles behind executed tests. Inspections of individual completed construction processes at selected structures and structural units will be presented to students, who will gain practical knowledge regarding the execution of inspections as well as the ability to process the obtained results. Students will be able to compare test results with valid standards and evaluate them. Students will create a comprehensive protocol with comments on the obtained documentation and test results.

Prerequisites

Knowledge is required from the area of construction technology; knowledge of the procedures for the execution of basic construction sub-processes and the connections between them is also important.

Co-requisites

It is necessary to progressively become acquainted with currently valid standards and keep up to date with changes to them. The results of tests must be compared with the current valid version of the relevant standard.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

The theoretical basis of the construction process and quality control of the executed work is explained in the form of lectures, and the issues concerned are further discussed and tested on real-world structures. In practical lessons, the emphasis is placed on the independent checking and execution of tests in the laboratory or in the field.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

The subject is completed by passing an exam. Regular attendance, submission of laboratory protocols and presentations are necessary to obtain a credit. Everything must be in accordance with the valid version of the Study and Examination Regulations of BUT.

Course curriculum

1. Issues concerned with the inspection of construction execution, related legislation, connection with ČSN standards, technical regulations and contracts for work, application of inspection and test plans.
2. Theory of measurement procedures, the physical basis of the digital measurement of non-electrical quantities.
3. Input quality control of materials and the readiness for construction execution.
4. Inspections and tests connected with the execution of ground works.
5. Inspections during the execution of the shell of a building’s superstructure.
6. Quality of interior and finishing work.
