Introduction to the road transportation. Basic design work, design documentation. Highway routing, design elements of route. Technical category, design elements for horizontal and vertical alignment, width configuration of a road in a cross section. Optimization of route, relation of horizontal and vertical alignment, aesthetics of road. Assessment and evaluation of route design, alternatives, road safety and environmental assessment.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Teaching methods depend on the type of course unit as specified in the article 7 of BUT Rules for Studies and Examinations.
After learning the basic routing the project of a highway in a training map is the fundamental method of education.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Practises are finished with a credit classification with condition of adequate attendance (max three absences), supply of a complete project in extent described in classes.
Examination has written and oral part.

Aims

The objective is to gain the basic information about the road construction materials, its use for particular layers, system of testing, various road construction and maintenance technologies and dimensioning of flexible and rigid road constructions.
