Concrete structures (K)

FAST-BL002Acad. year: 2018/2019

Load-bearing structures of one-storey and multi-storied monolithic skeleton buildings. Foundation structures.
Dimensioning of reinforced concrete members relating to limit state serviceability.
Two-ways slabs – edge and locally supported (flat-slab floor, lifted slabs). Two-way ribbed and cassette plates. Circular plates.Simple and continuous wall beams. Retaining walls.
Storage structures (bunkers and silos). Storage tanks for liquids, water towers, channels and ducts.
Precast structures – skeletons, halls, buildings from flat and spatial units.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

A student gains these knowledge and skills:
Knowledge of the principles of static solution of concrete structures of building construction and civil engineering. Understanding to the behaviour of flat concrete structures. Knowledge of designing framed reinforced concrete structures. Knowledge of designing simple foundation structures. Designing slab and wall concrete structures.

Prerequisites

structural mechanics, theory of elasticity, load, design of concrete members

Co-requisites

do not required

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Teaching methods depend on the type of course unit as specified in the article 7 of BUT Rules for Studies and Examinations. Education runs in the forms of lectures and trainings. Character of the lectures is based on definition of basic principles, problems and methodology. In the trainings the main subject matters are trained on individually defined projects (examples).

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

To gain the credit, the students should elaborate individually defined design and calculate specified task. The students are obliged to consult the design continuously in the given terms and submit it to the fixed date. The presences in training lessons are checked. An exam consists both of the written part, in which the task is elaborated, and the theoretical part. To pass the exam successfully, both parts should be accomplished.

Course curriculum

1.-2. Multi-storey monolithic skeleton constructions – frame structures.
3. Single-storey monolithic frame structures of industrial halls.
4. Dimensioning of reinforced concrete members by limit state of serviceability.
5.-6. Shallow foundations of frame constructions – footings, continuous footings, grids and slabs. Deep foundations.
7. Floor structures edge supported.
8. Floor structures locally supported.
9. Lifted floor structures. Ribbed and cassette slabs. Circular slabs. Simple supported and continuous deep girders.
10. Storage tanks – bunkers and silos.
11. Troughs, tanks and water reservoirs.
12. Channels and ducts. Retaining walls.
13. Precast structures – skeletons, halls, flat and space elements.
