Health Legislation and Law

FEKT-AZLPAcad. year: 2018/2019

The course deals with ethics and law in health care, consent and compliance in healthcare, civil, administrative and criminal responsibility in health care, confidentiality as protection of privacy, the interpretation of eligibility for non-medical professions biomedical technicians and engineers. Discusses public and private funding in health, the issue medical materials medical law and ethics research, assisted reproduction, abortion and euthanasia.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

The student is able to:
- discuss the basic principles of law and ethics in health care,
- explain the meaning of agreement and consensus in health care,
- interpret the concepts of obligation to care and forced in health care,
- describe the civil, administrative and criminal law liability in health care,
- explain privacy confidentiality in health care,
- discuss conditions of employment for technicians in health care,
- describe the conditions of work with sanitary material,
- explain ethics and law in health care research,
- discuss the terms of abortion and euthanasia.


Student who writes this article should be able to discuss the basics of the legal conscious citizens, ethics, accountability, abortion, euthanasia and health organization.

Course curriculum

1. Law and ethics in health care.
2. Consent and consensus in health care.
3. Duty of care and compulsory care in health care.
4. Law responsibility in health care.
5. Privacy and confidentiality of personal data in health care.
6. Employment in health care, staff qualifications, health care organization.
7. Public and private financing of health care.
8. Medical materials - drugs, biological material.
9. Medical research, its ethics and law.
10. Life and death - assisted reproduction, abortion, euthanasia.


The aim of the course is to provide students with basic knowledge of the structure of law in health care, legal liability in health, privacy, confidentiality, organization and employment in health, health financing, health care materials and research issues of life and death.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

Seminar is compulsory, properly excused absences seminars can be arranged with the teacher to replace.
