Barrel Weapons Quality

The graduate will acquire the necessary overview about main processes in which weapon quality arises, as well as of processes in which it is guaranteed. Student will understand the common requirements on design of main parts of small arms. He/she is acquainted with weapons policy in the Czech legal system. He/she is also familiarised with current production of the main types of long and short guns in the Czech Republic and also in other countries.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

The subject of Barrel Weapons Quality enables the graduates to acquire knowledge about main processes in which weapon quality arises, as well as of processes in which it is guaranteed. The graduates are acquainted with weapons policy in the Czech legal system. He/she is also familiarised with current production of the main types of long and short guns in the Czech Republic and also in other countries.

General mechanical engineering knowledge.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

The course is taught through lectures explaining the basic principles and theory of the discipline. Exercises are focused on practical topics presented in lectures. According to the possibility of teaching can be organized lectures for students by practitioners and excursions to companies focused on activities related to the course content.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Credit is awarded based on final test (50%) and semester project (50%). It is graded on the ECTS grading scale.

Aims

The main purpose of the course Barrel Weapons Quality is to teach students to understand and manage processes in which weapon quality arises, as well as of processes in which it is guaranteed. The graduates are acquainted with fundamentals of weapons policy in the Czech legal system. He/she is also familiarised with current production of the main types of long and short guns in the Czech Republic and in other countries.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

Attendance at lectures is voluntary, however recommended. Tutorials are obligatory and credit is awarded based on final test and semester project. In the case of excused absence from tutorial, the student is given the opportunity to write a paper instead.

1. Principles of the design of barrel weapons – general classification of firearms, small arms classification
2. Small arms operation cycle, pistol, rifle, shotgun, revolver – design and operation, functional diagram and kinematics – geometric diagram (cyclograph)
3. Barrel weapons quality, terms and definitions
4. Barrel weapons life cycle
5. Quality management systems of barrel weapons
6. Main processes of quality management system of barrel weapons users. Requirements for a barrel weapon
7. Requirements for dependability and safety of barrel weapons
8. Main processes of quality management system of barrel weapons producers
9. Small arms barrels, common requirements on barrels design, barrel bore arrangement. Quality assurance in weapons barrel production
10. Breech systems of small arms - single shot and bolt-action breeches, breeches of self-loading and automatic weapons, breech closures of small arms. Quality assurance in breech system production
