Optical Communication Fundamentals and Optoelectronics

Radiometry and Photometry. Laser safety in the optoelectronic laboratory (medicine, hygienic and metrological aspects). Wave optics: interference, coherence, diffraction and holography. Optical resonators, Gaussian characteristics of the laser beam. Fundamentals of lasers. Semiconductor optoelectronics: laser diodes, LEDs, PIN and avalanche photodiodes. Fiber optics. Optical links. optical sensors.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Techning methods include lectures, computer laboratories and practical laboratories. Course is taking advantage of e-learning (Moodle) system. Students have to write a single project/assignment during the course.
