Workshop - Graphic Design

The course is concerned with graphic design (visual communication design) as a means of understanding and humanization of the environment. History and the present of graphic design. Introduction to semiology. Also dealt with are the following topics: Application of lettering, symbol, picture, colour etc. in typographic and graphic designs, and also in the graphic presentation of designer’s projects. The creative component of work is in the first stage: design of visual style (Corporate Identity) and processing of the design manual. The content of the work is design of symbol, logotype, colors, typefaces, and then their development into practical applications for electronic and print media. The second task could be a project from information design sphere: provozní operational or orientation graphics. Examples of project themes: A) "Corporate Identity Program" (CIP) in two stages. Example 1: "CIP of events: fairs, exhibitions, conferences, workshops, competitions, etc." First stage - corporate symbol and logotype, color, corporate type selection. Second stage - CIP application: A1 poster, tickets, invitation, program, website, etc. Example 2: "CIP of enterprise (company)" First Stage - corporate symbol and logotype, corporate color, corporate typeface. Second stage - CIP applications: service graphics, cars, web design, etc., incl. typographic design of design manual. B) "Information design" - grraphic design of controllers - pictographical orientation system.
The course has been upgraded with the support of the OPVK project. "The Studio digital sculpture and new media project", reg. No. CZ.1.07/2.2.00/28.0278, is co-financed by the European Social Fund and the state budget of the Czech Republic.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes
Resulting evaluation consists of evaluations on tasks and a test. In total it will be possible to aquire 100 points. Resulting classification will be defined by the ECTS scale.
If some of the projects and the test are awarded less than half of the maximum pts., final evaluation of the course is "failed".
According to the article No. 13 of Study and Examination Rules of Brno University of Technology ECTS evaluation degree scale is used. . If some of the projects are awarded less than 50 pts., final evaluation of the course is "failed". The course is evaluated with the following grades: ECTS EVALUATION DEGREES / PTS. RATING / NUMERIC RATING: A / 100 - 90 / 1 / Excellent; B /89 - 80 / 1,5 / Very good; C / 79 - 70 / 2 / Good; D / 69 - 60 / Satisfactory; E / 59 - 50 / Sufficient; F / 49 - 0 / 4 / Failed.
