Decision making theory

Theory and methods of decision making processes in the field of investor, design, production preparation and management of these processes. Application in the execution of construction. Application of system resources. Application of information systems. Theory and practice of operational research and logistics approaches. Control theory. The basics of logistics as a systems science. Management Information Systems. Mathematical methods, computer modeling and simulation of phenomena and processes, analysis of simulation runs. Tools for proceses identification and decomposition of systems, for identification and determining of material, informational and financial flow, for creation of block and time diagrams. Tools for methods of operations research.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

By mastering the objectives of the Decision Making Theory course the students will acquire the essential theoretical knowledge of decision making processes and operational research methods as well as their practical applications, continuing with information systems, operational research and logistic approaches. They will master fundamentals of applied mathematical methods and computer modelling.

Prerequisites

Numerical solutions of differential equations. Matrix. Number of indeterminacy and statistics.

Course curriculum

1. Introduction – system engineering – systems theory – control theory and cybernetics – theory of decision making processes.
2. Identification and analysis – elements of the decision making processes.
3. Logistics and management – general principles – logistics decomposition – logistics material, informational and financial flow, analysis and their interrelations.
4. Operational research – principles – methods and strategies – solution procedures.
5. Methods of network analysis – game theory – queuing theory.
6. Theory and methods of optimization – theory of minimum and maximum.
7. Information technology and strategy – data warehouses.
8. Project management – structures and management schemas – life cycle.
9. Management as a process of pattern processing (feedback between the controlled and controlling subject) – theory of cybernetic models.
10. Theory of decision making and decision making processes – the relations between decision making and control – classification and modeling of decision making tasks.
11: Optimization of decision making processes – principles of Business Intelligence.
12. Company management and company resources – reengineering –ERP, CRM, SCM systems – decision making processes in the management of production.
13. Decision making processes in production preparation – continuity of production process – operative planning – supply systems.
