Course detail

Design of Racing Pneumobile

FSI-0ZPAcad. year: 2014/2015

The course focuses on the development and modification of racing pneumobile. Students during the semester propose changes to the vehicle in order to achieve better handling and performance parameters than students in the last year. It contains design of machine elements, gears, pneumatics, electronics and control. The proposed solutions are discussed and compared in the team and validated by the teacher. Students will gain practical experience during solution of multidisciplinary project and they deepen the knowledge of machine design.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

During the semester, students are introduced with pneumatic actuators and their control. They will gain experience in the design of chain and gears, CAD modeling, geometry of vehicle chassis. Students will gain experience of working in a team and especially they will get practical verification of the implementation of their proposals. Students will also gain experience with planning and time requirements of the design and implementation phase of the project.

Prerequisites

Knowledge in area of design fundamentals, and CAD systems (Inventor). Advantageous is knowledge of machine parts and mechanisms, FEM, pneumatic systems, electronics and PLC control.

Co-requisites

Aims

The primary objective of the course is the application of theoretical knowledge on the practical task during the implementation of a prototype of racing car based on a pneumatic actuator. The secondary objective is the active participation of two teams of students with modified vehicles at the international competition of pneumobiles in Hungary.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

Attendance at laboratory practicals is obligatory and checked by the lecturer. Interest about the project is expected. Compensation of missed lessons in an alternative date is not possible. In case of more than two unexcused absences, the student will be excluded from further education.
