Learning outcomes of the course unit
Students who complete the course successfully should be able to:
- use the past, the present perfect and the past perfect tenses in narratives
- use passives
- identify different speaking styles (a lecture, a presentation, a briefing etc.)
- communicate their views efficiently in order to persuade the readers or listeners
- formulate hypothetical statements
- use a range of language features to emphasise a statement
- explain the meaning of idiomatic expressions and use them in an appropriate context
- analyse complex sentences and identify types of clauses
- write an essay
- write a review
- write a covering letter
- read complex texts and sum them up
- interpret and compare information

Prerequisites
Students enrolling in the course should be able to speak about a variety of subjects using a range of grammar and vocabulary, use different tenses both in speaking and writing, use passives, identify types of clauses, use common phrasal verbs, idiomatic expressions and collocations, read complex texts and apply reading compehension techniques, write a short text using a range of grammar and vocabulary, understand complex listening exercises.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Presenting and application of new topics using multimedia, simulation of real situations, role play, team work, individual presentations.

75% attendance and active participation.

Aims
The course is focused on the development of all language competences and on upgrading level B2 to level C1, especially in reading and writing skills.
