Learning outcomes of the course unit

Understanding the relationships between the structure of compounds and their chemical reactivity and between symmetry and molecular and crystal structure of substances.

Prerequisites

General and Inorganic Chemistry

Co-requisites

Not applicable.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

The course uses teaching methods in form of Lecture - 2 teaching hours per week. The e-learning system (LMS Moodle) is available to teachers and students.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

At least 50% success rate in the written part is required and the oral examination demonstrate appropriate knowledge in the required scope of the syllabus and the ability to apply this knowledge to solve simple chemical problems. The written test includes 6 equal questions (one from each group of non-metallic elements). At the oral examination, attention is focused on the detection abilities of the student to apply the general principles and logic to solve specific problems (student answers two questions). The final score is the arithmetical average rating of written and oral part. Evaluation is performed according to the ECTS.

Aims

The aim of this course is to extend the basic knowledge of the non-metallic elements chemistry. Attention is focused on practical topics and advanced inorganic materials. Very important is to understand the relationships between the structure of compounds and their chemical reactivity and between symmetry and molecular and crystal structure of substances.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

Attendance of the lectures is obligatory.
