Legal background of quality and metrology. Structuring of metrology and overview of means and methods of measurement and inspection in engineering metrology focussing on geometric quantities. Basic principles and requirements of building and operating precise metrological laboratories. Measurement errors and their statistical interpretation. Control technology and specification of control operations. Organizational background of metrology at an engineering company. Legal, scientific, and practical metrology. Production process control.

Examination: An examination consists of a written and an oral part. It verifies whether a student has learned the theoretical basics and their practical applications. The exam results also reflect those of the practical laboratory exercises, the experiment reports and the written tests.
