Microwave Techniques

Principles and applications of microwave techniques. Coax lines, planar transmission lines, rectangular and circular metallic waveguides. Microwave resonators. Passive microwave circuits - directional couplers, attenuators, matching loads, phase shifter, nonreciprocal devices. Microwave integrated circuits.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

The students become familiar with basic microwave techniques in the frequency range up to tens GHz. Coaxial lines, planar transmission lines, rectangular and circular metallic waveguides. Microwave resonators. Passive microwave circuits - directional couplers, attenuators, matching loads, phase shifter, nonreciprocal devices. Microwave integrated circuits.

1. Fundamental microwave transmission structures.
2. Rectangular and circular waveguides. Waveguide excitation.
3. Microwave network analysis.
4. Impedance transformers.
5. Transmission line resonators. Cavity resonators.
6. Dielectric resonators. Excitation of resonators.
7. Power dividers.
8. Directional couplers.
9. Microwave attenuators and phase shifters, matched loads.
10. Microwave filters.
11. Nonreciprocity microwave ferrite circuits.
12. Microwave integrated circuits.
13. Substrate integrated waveguide technology.
