Environmental analytical chemistry

Students will be made familiar with basic principles of sampling for environmental analysis; composite and individual samples. SOP for sampling. Isolation of analytes from individual matrices. Methodical procedures for analysis of selected contaminants and xenobiotics in various matrices, principles of their determination. Determination of inorganic and organic pollutants in biotic and abiotic samples. Quality systems and their application in environmental analysis. Chemometry in the field of environmental analysis.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

The theoretical and practicaL skills in the fieldmof chemical analysis in environmental and biological samples; introduction to instrumental methods most commonly.

Prerequisites

Completed education in analytical chemistry I and II, compled education in instrumental and structural analysis.

Teaching methods depend on the type of course unit as specified in the article 7 of BUT Rules for Studies and Examinations.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

The oral test, which will verify the basic knowledge of the application of instrumental methods for the analysis of inorganic and organic pollutants in environmental matrices.

2nd Area of trace and ultra-trace analysis, chemometrics and metrology aspects of environmental analysis.

Aims

Introduction to the most commonly applied instrumental methods in environmental analysis. Learning to generate accurate and precise results in the accordance with QA / QC.



Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

Checking full-time students will be performed through consultations at the end of each block. Students combined study program will process essay.
