Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Requirements for successful completion of the subject are specified by guarantor’s regulation updated for every academic year.

Course curriculum

1. Walls – constructional and material requirements, masonry bearing walls, brickwork and blockwork (materials, bonds, creeping and settling), monolithic concrete walls.
2. Rubblework and mixed masonry, openings in bearing walls, lintels, ring beams
3. Reinforced concrete and prefabricated frames (beam, head, slab), spatial frame stiffness
4. Steel and combined frames, constructional solutions for multi-story buildings, examples of so called “superstructures”
5. Dilatation joints and dilatation parts of load-bearing and non-structural constructions
6. Chimney and ventilation flues – principles of design and usage
7. Ceilings – functional and structural requirements, correspondence to vertical bearing constructions, reinforced concrete ceilings.
8. Reinforced concrete prefabricated, ceramic, wooden, steel and combined ceiling constructions.
9. Vaults, overhanging and suspended structures (balconies, loggias, access balconies, terraces, cornices and bay windows)
10. Vertical non-structural walls: functional, static, acoustic, fire-stopping requirements on partitions. Masonry, monolithic and prefabricated partitions
11. – 14. Stairways and sloping ramps. Basic principles for design, stairway constructions. Stairways in monolithic frames. Prefabricated string, element reinforced concrete, wooden and steel stairways. Outer stairways. Ladders – nomenclature, brief overview of constructional requirements. Railings – nomenclature, technical requirements – height, filling, handle. Elevators – principles of funicular and hydraulic elevator, overview of types: passenger, cargo etc., requirements on construction. Escalators.
