In-Flight Experiments

FSI-OXMAcad. year: 2011/2012

Familiarizing students with experimental methods of in-flight testing. Students participate in at least three (four) flights, each of which concerns with specific exercise such as performance, stability and control or in the case of air-traffic students, a navigation flight. Students are required to complete a report on the work.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Learning methods of aircraft performance measurements and flight characteristics of small airplanes. Acquiring the skill of evaluating measured results, reduction of flight performance to standard conditions.

Prerequisites

The basics of mechanics, technical measurement of strength, pressure, temperature, length and time. Evaluation and processing of measured data. Setting measured mistakes. The basic of flight mechanics - performance.

Co-requisites

Not applicable.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Teaching methods depend on the type of course unit as specified in the article 7 of BUT Rules for Studies and Examinations.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

The course-unit credit requirements: attendance at practical flight and land measurements (80% at the minimum), the records with correct results must be hand in on time. Evaluation fulfils the University requirements.

Aims

The goal is to make students familiar with public domestic airport operation, aircraft operation and service. Basic methods used during measurements of flight performance and characteristics.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

Practical exercises at the airport are compulsory and controlled. The absence (in justifiable cases and in limited form) can be compensated, by prior arrangement with the lecturer, by individual measured flights in student’s own time.
