The course is familiarises students with the rules and regulations governing trading activities, and enables them to apply the acquired knowledge. Also dealt with are the proceedings by the Trades Licensing Office, the Trade Register, collection of documents, and registration courts.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Students will be made familiar with the basic terminology of trading activities in terms of laws valid in the Czech Republic, and will develop skills necessary to establish a notifiable trade or licensed trade, or to set up a limited liability company. They will be able to apply their knowledge to particular examples.

Prerequisites

Basic knowledge of Civil and Commercial Laws.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Teaching methods depend on the type of course unit as specified in the article 7 of BUT Rules for Studies and Examinations.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

The course-unit credit is conditional on the following:
1. Active attendance at seminars – minimum 50 %.
2. Successful completion of three tests – minimum 70 % completion of given course works.
3. Both the above mentioned conditions have to be satisfied.

Conditions for passing an exam: Students have to demonstrate their knowledge acquired in the course and be able to apply it in practice.
Form of examination: combined – a written test followed by an oral examination if necessary.

Aims

The objective of this course is to facilitate applying of the acquired knowledge when solving practical examples. Students will be informed about individual forms of business activities; the possibilities how to arrange the trade licenses; how to set up a firm as natural person or as a joint company; and also to determine the right direction of leading the firm as an owner or as a business advisor.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

Monitoring of students’ individual work on the assigned tasks. In case of an excused absence from seminars, tutors may set additional conditions or coursework if appropriate, generally elaboration of partial written tasks.

1. Basic terminology, the introduction to business activities from historical point of view. Legal aspects of business activities.
2. Law on Rules and regulations of trading activities – part I – definition of trading license, introduction to rules and regulations governing the work of Trade Licensing Offices.
3. Law on Rules and regulations of trading activities – part I – chapter II – business activities, conditions of obtaining the trade license, different types of licenses.
4. Law on Rules and regulations of trading activities – part III – chapters I, II, III, IV – the scope of authorization, the appropriateness of trade license, issuing the trade license. Expiration and a liquidation of trade authorization. The control of trade activity, fines, unauthorized business activities, violation of provisions of law. Part IV.
5. Part V – temporary and closing regulations.
