Laboratory Classes of Surface Treatment of Materials

FCH-BCO_PUM_PAcad. year: 2011/2012

The subject is focused on select material & technology problems of surface treatments, with the emphasis put on the system approach to the methods of deterioration material evaluation and to the methods of evaluation of surface treatments duality. The main stress is laid on acquiring basic knowledge necessary for classification of construction materials resistance against environment influences and for the option of suitable surface treatments against environment influences, firstly of paint systems and another protective and decorative coatings.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

The practical training makes students familiar with the survey of methods of deterioration material classification and about legislative for testing of surface treatments quality evaluation.

Prerequisites

Students are expected to be familiar with the basic type of metallic and non-metallic materials, with the relationship between their structure and physico-chemical properties and basic type of surface treatments. Attainments of simultaneous legislation of surface engineering and methods of matematical statistics are an advantage.

Co-requisites

Not applicable.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Teaching methods depend on the type of course unit as specified in the article 7 of BUT Rules for Studies and Examinations.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Course-unit credit is conditional on 100 % attendance in practicals, working out the reports of practicals according to instructions of the teacher. Defending the report of practical in a closing interview.

Course curriculum

1. Basic partition of methods of material deterioration.
2. Metallographic quantification of corrosion rate of iron and zinc in chemical environments.
3. Evaluation of corrosion agresivity of atmospheric environment from meteorological observation.
4. Evaluation of corrosion resistance of basic polymeric materials in chemical environments.
5. Influence of pickling bath inhibition on disolution of the construction steel.
6. Prepation of oxide protective coating on aluminium.
7. Stabilisation of an atmospheric rust and treatment of protective coatings.
8. Preparation of experimental paint systems.
9. Surface preliminary preparation and making of powder cotings.
10. Determination of basic values of protective coating quality.
11. Interpretation of results. Application of metods of matematical statistics. Date Base Systems.
12. Individual proposal of surface treatment of distinguished material types.
13. Summary. Consultation for conferment of credits.

Aims

1. Assumption of basic knowledge from testing range and evaluation of surface treatments duality forcefully to compatible procedures with the scope of EU.
2. Course directive: The practical familiarization with principles and function of testiny equipments and testing behaviours for deterioration material tests owing to environment and evaluation of resistance of surface treatments. Interpretation of results by using of matematical statistics methods. Application of knowledge for probleme of surface engineering.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

The attendance of the practical training is compulsory and is checked by the teacher. Students exemplifies of testing results in protocols.
