Environmental analytical chemistry

Students will be made familiar with basic principles of sampling for environmental analysis; composite and individual samples. SOP for sampling. Isolation of analytes from individual matrices. Methodical procedures for analysis of selected contaminants and xenobiotics in various matrices, principles of their determination. Determination of inorganic and organic pollutants in biotic and abiotic samples. Quality systems and their application in environmental analysis. Chemometry in the field of environmental analysis.

1. Introduction to environmental analysis
2. Trace and ultratrace analysis, chemometry, metrological aspects
3. Preanalytical procedures - isolation of analytes from abiotic and biotic matrices, clean-uú of extracts and leachates
4. Methods based on application of gas chromatography, including hyphenated techniques
5. Methods based on application of liquid chromatography, including hyphenated techniques
6. Electromigration techniques applied in environmental analysis
7. Spectrophotometry applied in environmental analysis
8. Chemometry and quality assurance/quality control systems
9. Accreditation in environmental laboratory
10. Examples of analytical procedures for determination of selected biologically active compounds and selected inorganic and organic pollutants
