Bachelor Project A2-4b

Creative studio work is the main and essential means of teaching architecture. It is based on the "learning by doing" method, i.e. gaining knowledge and skills by practical application. It consists in the dialogue of the teacher with the student over a project that is being developed. Thematically, it deals with residential buildings, public buildings, factories, reconstruction of monuments, interior and exhibition design, and town planning , which the students go through according to the Study Order of the Faculty of Architecture of the Brno University of Technology ( FA BUT).

Learning outcomes of the course unit

By successful defence of the bachelor design, the student passes the last part of the final state examination in the bachelor study program. He or she proves the ability to design constructions of any type, as employee of a design office.

Prerequisites

Successful completion of the bachelor design requires knowledge of and skills in general typology, design of residential buildings, design of buildings for temporary accommodation, design of public buildings, design of industrial buildings, knowledge of problems of interior design of architectural space, and ability to apply the gained knowledge and skills in practice.

Teaching methods depend on the type of course unit as specified in the article 7 of BUT Rules for Studies and Examinations.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

The student is assigned a bachelor design only after having successfully passed the oral part of the final state examination in the bachelor study program, i.e. in the 8th semester. He or she is appraised by the work's leader and by an elected opponent, and the final defence of the design takes place before the State Examination Commission, and is classified within the ECTS system.

Aims

The bachelor design is to prove the student's ability to apply the knowledge and skills gained in the study to specialised typological disciplines.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

The work on the bachelor design takes 12 weeks and is conducted in form of the teacher's consultations with the student. If the student fails to complete or submit the work, he or she can complete the bachelor study program in the next ordinary term with a new design assignment.
