Recording Places and Events - Subjective Document in Photography

Lecture.
Contemporary Czech documentary photography and photographers.
Theoretical and practical introduction into digital photography
getting to know the assigned topic and environment
Appropriate choise of the camera; subjective document - mastering both the technical and content aspects
Result: students will present a cycle of photographs.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Students will be able to work in a given environment (interior, exterior). Their photographs will be mastered both in the technical and the content aspect.

Prerequisites

Students have to have a basic orientation in the classical and digital photography technology.

Teaching methods depend on the type of course unit as specified in the article 7 of BUT Rules for Studies and Examinations..

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

In order to obtain credits, students will have to submit the assignment: a collection (cycle) of 8 - 10 photographic prints - 18x24 cm.

Course curriculum

Introduction to documentary photography.
Lecture: prominent documentary photographers.
Getting to know the assigned place and topic.
Choosing the appropriate camera and work process.
Three mandatory tutorials.
Final evaluation and presentation of the photographs.

Aims

Students will learn to depict a particular space and event, but at the same time express the portrayed person's inner feeling, the atmosphere of the place, and by this express their own view of life.
Students will learn to choose the appropriate camera and technology for the given task.
They will create a cycle of photographs on a freely chosen topic.
