Original Abstract

We have used an approximate “Method of partial characteristics (MPC)” to evaluate net emission coefficients in argon arc plasmas of cylindrical symmetries at various arc radii. We have calculated coefficients of absorption for Ar plasmas at the temperatures from 300 to 35 000 K, and have used these coefficients to calculate partial characteristics. From the tables of partial characteristics we have extracted data of isothermal plasmas, corresponding to well known net emission coefficients. Our net emission coefficients can be used for rough prediction of radiation transport of energy in Argon arc plasmas, assuming local thermodynamic equilibrium. Both the continuum and line spectrum have been included in calculations. We have taken into account radiative photo-recombination and bremsstrahlung for continuous and over 500 spectral lines for discrete spectra respectively.
