Original Abstract

The maxi-parasol with the ground plan size of 3.5 x 3.5 m and the vertex angle of 120 degrees is made of steel and alloy sections. The analysis described in the paper aims to determine the wind speed that makes the maxi-parasol collapse. To specify the required collapse wind speed the maxi-parasol had to be examined as one unit and also considering each of its parts separately with regard to displacements, stresses and strains. The analysis took into account the geometric change of shape, material non-linear behaviour of the steel and alloy parts and the contact of some elements of the structure. The analysis helped to decrease the weight of the structure and reduce the work difficulty.
